As one of the symbolic foods we eat on Rosh Hashana, apples dipped in honey brings sweetness to our lives. Apples, honey, and bees have influenced this special Rosh Hashana tabletop inspiration board. Shana Tova U’metuka, may you have a happy and sweet new year.

For Rosh Hashana this year, I wanted to make something with a lovely honey flavor that would be portable enough to take to my various meals. I found this amazing (and super-easy) recipe and made them last night in just 1 hour, including baking time and clean-up. They’re kind of like large gooey honey grahams, and they use only one bowl for prep. What honey-themed desserts are you making this year?

Honey Cookies

1 1/3 cups canola oil
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup honey
4 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp vanilla extract
4 cups unbleached white flour
Turbinado sugar for rolling

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

In a mixing bowl stir together oil, sugar, eggs, honey, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and vanilla. Mix well, then stir in the flour until just incorporated.

Shape the cookies into balls about 1 inch in diameter and roll them in Turbinado sugar. Place 2 ½ inches apart on parchment lined cookie sheets and bake for 11 minutes. They should be nice and golden, a little brown on the edges.

Makes 4 dozen.
